According to Chinese language media, the actor and director Jiang Wen's new film, The Sun Rises Again, has been cleared by Chinese authority without single cut, and set to participate in Cannes Film Festival. The Sun Rises Again tells the stories in rural area of Southwest China during Cultural Revolution. Because of its still sensitive subject and Jiang Wen's relationship with film authority, the clearance of this film without single cut is somewhat surprising. This is Jiang Wen's first directing feature in eight years after his Cannes Grand Pirx Award-winning During That War. Because he failed to get permission before showing it in Cannes, Jiang Wen was not allowed to direct films for five years, although he continued to act in several films.
The production company of The Sun Rises Again was reported saying Jiang Wen is still working on post-production of the film in France, and whether to show it in Cannes or not, this film will be released in June 2007.
