The 60th Cannes Film Festival will open with Wong Kai-Wai's My Blueberry Nights, however there is no Chinese language films in the official competition. Contrast to the high expection beforehand, only two Chinese films, Li Yang's Blind Mountain and Diao Yinan's Night Train, are selected for the Un Certain Regard section. Instead, Chinese director Jia Zhangke will chair the Cinefondation and short films Jury, while Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung is one of the Feature films Jury.
Blind Mountain (previously known as Road Home, is director Li Yang's (Blind Shaft) second feature. It follows the ordeal of a University student who is kidnapped and trafficked to forced marriage in a remote village. A documentary film, Chronicle of a Chinese Woman, made by Wang Bing, will be shown in the Special Screening section.
