The 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival

The organisers of the 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival has announced Hong Kong's Eye in the Sky (directed by Yau Nai-hoi) and South Korea's I am a Cyborg, but That's OK (directed by Park Chan-wook) as the openning films of the Film Festival, which starts on 19 March, 2007. This year's "Director in Focus" is Hong Kong director Herman Yau. The programme also includes a retrospective of the late Li Han Hsiang, whose 40 years film career saw him shooting films across Hong Kong, Taiwan, and large part of China.

The 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival announces as its Opening Film

Presented by Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, proudly supported by Giordano Concepts, the HKIFF announces as its opening film this year at a press conference on 22nd February at 12 noon at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. HKIFF also premieres its latest promotional reel at the occasion. The opening film will get a red carpet treatment at 7:15pm on 19th March at Hong Kong Convention Centre. Producer Johnnie To, Director Yau Nai-hoi and cast members including Simon Yam and Kate Tsui attend the press conference while the chairman of HKIFF Society Mr. Wilfred Wong, JP honors them with the certificate of entry to the opening film.

Once again, the 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival will take you on an unforgettable cinematic journey with 16 world premieres, 9 international premieres and 22 Asian premieres plus over ten red carpet ceremonies. From stellar casts production to cutting edge movies, not to mention the biggest ever animation selections from all over the world (including our new programme section “Animation for All” ), from masters, auteurs, to independent filmmakers, all together the 300 titles promise you a extraordinary 23 days of film festival you’ve never seen before.

Last year, ticket sales soared by 20 percent from the year before.
