Still Life (2006)

Set in the period of the construction of Three Gorge Dam, this film is again about common people's life in the changing time. Some villages have already been under the water, while the new homes haven't finished yet. A nurse (Zhao Tao, The World, Unknown Pleasures, Platform) comes to Three Gorge region to look for her husband who came here to do business three years ago. She gradually comes to term with the reality that her husband may have abondoned her. Meanwhile a minor from the north comes to look for his wife and child. Sixteen years ago he bought his bride from a human traffic gang. The girl was sent back to Three Gorge region by the authority shortly after she's pragnant. Now the minor is determined to be reunited with his family. Will their paths cross? This film is inspired by the painter Liu Xiaodong's work, and was shot at the same time with director Jia Zhangke's documentary Dong (2006).
